Ingredients
  

Okra
  • 1 pound fresh okra sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
Breading
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
Egg Wash
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
Oil
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying

Method
 

Prepare the Okra
  1. Wash and slice the okra into 1/2-inch pieces.
Make the Egg Wash
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk until well combined.
Prepare the Breading
  1. In another bowl, mix together the cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
Coat the Okra
  1. Dip the okra pieces into the egg wash, then coat them in the cornmeal mixture.
Fry the Okra
  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the coated okra in batches and fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried okra and drain on paper towels.
Serve
  1. Serve hot as a side dish or snack.
